Hawaiian Foosball Lanai
All the Foosball News in the Islands of Hawaii!
Aloha, welcome to our Hawaiian Foosball Lanai here in Paradise!

June 23 2001 is the next HSTA Tournament!

This one's also the popular Roto-DYP format. Payout for our last HTSA tournament (and we only had 12 guys worth of entry fees) was $100, $70, $50, for 1st 2nd & 3rd, and $20 for a random team to payback entry fee! So you better get out here this June 23! What is Roto DYP? Partners must switch positions every time they score! If you don't score you stay in position! 7:00 p.m. at Sharks Billiards. $10 entry fee, 100% paid back. Contact hawaii_tsa@hotmail.com for more information.

3rd: Frank Balecha, Jonathan Ching ($50)

4th: John Ueshiro & Clay Tamaki

I'll post a tournament tree soon for all HTSA events.

April 2001 HTSA (Hawaii Table Soccer Association) created!

Winston and Gordon, new owners of Layne's tables, have created the HTSA to promote foosball in Hawaii. The tables are located at Sharks in the Nimitz Business Center, next to World Cafe behind the parking lot. Contact hawaii_tsa@hotmail.com for more information.

May 2000 Global Link closed-- Layne's Tornado tables now at Sharks on Nimitz

Global Link finally closed, the two owners parting ways and each opening a separate establishment. One of these has the foos tables, and is called Sharks on Nimitz.

Also, check out the foos table at Velvet Touch on Auahi. It's a Tornado in great condition.

April 1, 2000 Global Link is staying open! (not closing!)

Global Link is reportedly making rent payments on a day-by-day basis, so is remaining open. So come on down on Saturday nights while the going is good, because who knows how long this will last.

March 21, 2000: Global Link is Closing!

Apparently Global Link was falling behind on rent payments. In any case they are closing and this Saturday March 25, 2000 will probably be the last night of foosball.

I'll keep you posted here on any new playing locations that may develop. There are several rumored possibilities so far...

For now there's still Brian's, Pipeline, and Waikiki Moose's.

So please come out to Aloha Foos at Global Link this Sat Mar 25.

The latest word is that Layne is planning the second Hawaii State Championships, serving a second function as the warmup for those bound for the USTSA Hall of Fame Classic in Las Vegas in early March. Stay posted for dates.

Also regular monthly DYPs are being planned. One DYP a month should mean more players will be able to plan for, and be motivated to come to these tournaments.

February 4, 2000

The new Pipeline Cafe on Pohukaina St. (Kakaako) has Tornado foosball. They've been around since late last year. Apparently the tables are in need of service, so we may go help fix'm up. (808) 589-1999.

September 7, 1999:
Frankie Balecha went to the USTSA Worlds' this year, won 1st in Semi Pro Singles, won 1st in Forward Shoot Out, and won another table as the playoff winner of the best semi-pro finishers in Open Singles! Rumor has it he had a solid and polished tournament-hardened game, and that he drilled people primarily with the pushkick, drawing admiration from some that he was revivng an 'old' shot. I'll bet good defenders are probably better against the pull and rollover than the pushkick due to its relative rarity on the tour. We have a bonafide SemiPro and FSO World Champion. Can't wait to see his jacket! I guess he's ranked pro now... Congratulations Frankie!

July 24, 1999:
Global Link now has all of Layne's ZAPP! Tornado tables! They were installed 7/23/99. This place is huge! It's open 24 hours, and has a dozen or so pool tables, darts, and video games.

Global Link is now the largest foosball location in the state, where the best players will be. We will start tournaments again, on our regular night (some Saturdays). Come visit us Saturday nights and you will likely find foosers from the mid evening until the wee hours of the night, even past 2am. It may be hard to find, please see the driving instructions below.

Directions:
  • Global Link is located at 744 S. Beretania in Honolulu, above the Homeworld store. (phone: 808-534 0340 and 521-9882). However the entrance and parking is on the *back* side, on Kinau St (you can't get in from Beretania). Open 24 Hours, food & drink available. Five Tornado Tables.
  • Directions travelling "Ewa" (West) on H1. Take VINEYARD Exit, stay in left lane and make U-turn at first light so that you are travelling "Diamondhead" (East) on Vineyard. Follow directions below at Vineyard.
  • Directions travelling "Diamondhead" (East) on H1. Take PALI HWY Exit, then turn right (toward ocean), then turn left at next light (VINEYARD). Now travelling "Diamondhead" (East) on Vineyard, ( a few lights ) don't get on H1, instead take the rightmost exit lane, labeled LUSITANA ST, which turns into Kinau St. Turn right into the large recessed parking lot after a corner convenience store and sidewalk payphone on your right. At night the parking lot will be dark, and you will think it's some closed industrial storage warehouse-- that's it! You'll see (unlit) signs for Global Link and a Zen school. If you get to the stop sign, you've gone too far. Turn right at the next light (Ward) then your next immediate right (Beretania), and follow instructions below:
  • Traveling "Ewa" (West) on BERETANIA. Turn on your first right after WARD AVE. ( A little street called ALAPAI ). Make very next right turn (Kinau St.) . Turn right into the large recessed parking lot after a corner convenience store and sidewalk payphone on your right. At night the parking lot will be dark, and you will think it's some closed industrial storage warehouse-- that's it! You'll see (unlit) signs for Global Link and a Zen school. If you get to the stop sign on Kinau St, you've gone too far... turn right on Ward then right on Beretania and try again.
